Construction of the Bluffton Parkway Phase 5A Flyover continues along U.S. 278 despite the recent rainy weather.
On Friday, a reinforcing steel cage was carefully lowered into place. Each one of the cages weighs more than 40 tons and measures almost 100 feet long.
Once the cage goes in, crews will mount a column and a hammerhead cap on top, which will support the road for drivers.
So far they've installed more than half of these structures for the flyover.
"We want to make sure we take our time," said project manager John Nguyen. "We want to make sure we do it safely. We want to make sure when it's done, it's done right because as you can see, with the project and the amount of concrete out here, it's very difficult to go back into it and try to rework anything."
The Bluffton Parkway Phase 5A Flyover Project remains under budget and one schedule for the fall of 2015.
