BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

Palmetto Electric Cooperative's 12th annual Touchstone Energy million dollar Hole-In-One Shootout raised over 8,000 dollars in support of Bright Ideas teacher grant program.

All the money than was raised during this event held May 29th and May 30th will be used for innovative classroom projects in schools.

500 Lowcountry golfers gathered at the Old South Golf Links and took more than 20,000 shots attempting to qualify for a chance to win 1 million dollars. There were 28 finalists but none of them were able to make a hole-in-one.

The closest to making the hole-in-one was Ted Morris of Hilton Head, SC whose shot landed just 9 feet and 8 inches away from 1 million dollars. He settled for a hefty 1,000 dollar prize for landing so close.

The overall winner of the putting contest was Jim Burke of Walterboro, SC.

Palmetto Electric Cooperative's officials say the real winner of the Hole-In-One Shootout is the children of the Lowcountry who benefit from having the Bright Ideas Program in their schools.
