Tree still sits on Wexler Street house days after falling

Posted: Updated:

A tree still sits on this house on Savannah's Wexler Street, two days after it fell.

Weather wasn't what brought the tree down on Saturday. A closer look at the roots of the tree shows rot.

The trouble is, the owner of the lot the tree is in isn't the one stuck with the damage.

Cynthia Singleton has had an unwelcome and impromptu skylight in her home for two days. She said it's her neighbor's tree that came crashing down, and now she's wondering who is going to get it off her home and pay to repair the damage.

"I was in the kitchen cooking, and I head a big blam, and I thought it was thunder, but it was a tree," said Singleton.

Her backyard is a jungle of limbs and the roof is seriously damaged. It even isn't the first time this has happened, as a another tree belonging to a neighbor lost a limb that came down on power line a sweek ago.

Singleton said she's been trying to get the problems fixed, but the owner of the neighboring property lives out of state.

Singleton said that if it doesn't get fixed in 30 days, the power company will shut off her electricity.

It wasn't weather that brought the tree down. Singleton said it was sunny and the wind was still when it all happened.

"It was rotten, right at the root," she said. "Get it repaired. It's been since Saturday, and you see, I've still got company."
