GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) -

First responders were dispatched to an overturned tanker truck in Garden City early Monday.

The call went out at 5:50 a.m. Officials say the driver was going too fast, causing the semi to overturn at the intersection of Bourne Ave and GA Hwy 21.

No injuries were reported.

Officials say the tanker was carrying sodium hydroxide which is a chemical that isn't that hazardous but does require a 100-foot evacuation area. Hazmat was called to assist with clean-up.

The intersection at Bourne and 21 is closed. Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Hwy 21 are shut down. Traffic is being diverted. Drivers should avoid the area and seek an alternate route. Delays can be expected.

GSP, Garden City Fire, Garden City Police, Port Wentworth, Metro and Ports Police all responded to the scene.

WTOC will continue to keep an eye on lane and road closures in the area. Check WTOC.com and WTOC on Facebook and Twitter for updates.
