Posted: Updated:
GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) -

All lanes and roads around GA Hwy 21 and Bourne Avenue in Garden City are back open to traffic after a tanker truck overturned early Monday morning.

The call went out at 5:50 a.m. Officials say the driver was going too fast, causing the semi to overturn at the intersection of Bourne Ave and GA Hwy 21.

No injuries were reported.

The tanker was carrying sodium hydroxide which is a chemical that isn't that hazardous but does require a 100-foot evacuation area. Hazmat was called to assist with clean-up.

The intersection at Bourne and Hwy 21 was close for nearly 3-hours while crews lifted the truck and cleared the scene. All lanes reopened to traffic shortly after 8 a.m. Officials say traffic should remain slow-going in the area for another 20 to 30 minutes.

The driver of the tanker truck was issued a traffic sitation.

GSP, Garden City Fire, Garden City Police, Port Wentworth, Metro and Ports Police all responded.
