City removes park fountain due to safety concerns

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The city of Savannah has made a decision to remove one of the fountains in Forsyth Park due to public safety concerns.

The decision comes after growing concerns over safety hazards involving the fountain located in front of the park's outdoor stage, referred to as the Band Shell. Despite the warning signs and barricades, children keep playing in it, even when their parents are present.

So instead of waiting for someone to get hurt, the city is removing it.

Deconstruction of the fountain has already begun. Crews began working on the fountain removal around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

City officials say the work should be complete by the end of the week.
