Dept. of Animal Control asks county commissioners for more money

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Dept. of Animal Control is asking for money to hire new employees to help raise efficiency at its facility.

The request came during the Chatham County Budget Workshop on Tuesday morning, which allowed department heads to ask for county funding for new initiatives.

Animal Control commander, Lt. Cary Hill, claims the department receives more calls than their officers can deal with. Sometimes even police officers much respond to these calls.

"At this point, I've made it as efficient as I can," said Hill. "It cannot be done any better without personnel. It can't, and I bring that to y'all."

The county commissioners will vote on the budget on June 27.
