Dept. of Public Works and Park Services asks county for automated vehicle location system

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Dept. of Public Works and Park Services is asking the county for an automated vehicle location system on its cars and trucks.

The request was just one of many proposed today during the Chatham County Commission Budget Workshop, which allowed department heads to ask for count funding.

The director of Public Works and Park Services said that this automated vehicle location system, which uses GPS technology, would help the department keep track of its vehicles as well as maintain efficiency on the job.

The system would allow the department access to a variety of information on its vehicles, like gas mileage or if a truck is out of its zone.

Some of the other budget requests made by the department include roadside and storm drain maintenance.

The county commissioners will vote on the budget on June 27.
