SCMPD offers wellness checks as temperatures rise

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

As we get closer to the real start of summer, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police officers are reminding people to check on their neighbors.

Officers say heat creates a dangerous situation for some citizens and pets. If you are concerned about a neighbor, officers can do what's called a wellness check for free.

There are some signs you should look out for so you know when to call.

"If you get signs, like the accumulation of newspapers in the driveway or a trashcan left out at the edge of the road, that is typically unusual for that individual, either check on the person yourself, and if you're not comfortable with that, then give your police department a call," said SCMPD Lt. Jeff Olson. "We're happy to go out and check on the individual and make sure they're ok."
