The Bluffton Police Department has reported that Anne Kravitz, 65, of Bluffton was killed after a four vehicle wreck Thursday afternoon.

Officials confirmed one person died and at least two other people were taken to Memorial by Life Star, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.

They said when they arrived, a semi-truck was turned on its side sitting on top of a car.

Two other cars, a Ford and Mercedes, were in the middle of the intersection and three people were entrapped.

The wreck happened around 11: 30 a.m. at Highway 278 and Buck Island Road. Officials say that Highway 278 eastbound starting at Buckwalter Parkway is now open, but Buck Island Road from Bluffton Parkway to Highway 278 remains closed.

Authorities said due to the serious nature of the crash, the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Major Accident Investigation Team is leading the investigation.

Highway 278 eastbound, between Buckwalter Parkway and Buck Island Road, were shut down most of Thursday due to the investigation.

"I feel very lucky and very worried for the people who were injured. I tried to stay with them until the EMT's could get there.  I saw the truck in the air and then I saw the other car with the injured people coming toward me, then I saw the truck land," one witness said.

Investigators are not sure what exactly caused this wreck.
