SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Cecelia Seiler, whose family has provided the University of Georgia's Uga mascots for more than half a century, passed away on Thursday in Savannah.

Seiler and her husband, Sonny, were newlyweds and he was a first-year law student at UGA when the couple received a pure white English bulldog as a wedding gift.

The couple took that dog, Uga I, to the Bulldogs' season opener in 1956 and a school and sate tradition was born.

Every succeeding Uga, including the current Uga IX, has come from the same bloodline as the first.

Arrangement for Mrs. Seiler are forthcoming.
