Armstrong Police Dept. collects unused prescription drugs at AASU

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Armstrong Police Dept. at Armstrong Atlantic State University collected nearly 500 pounds of unused prescription drugs over the course of four months.

With the help of the Chatham-Savannah Counter narcotics Team, the drugs were transported to Florida to be properly disposed of in an incinerator.

The program was started by the CNT in an effort to keep prescription drugs out of the water supply.

The Armstrong Police Dept. has the only 24-hour prescription drug drop-off box in Chatham County. People can anonymously drop medication in the box at any time, but CNT only initiates pickup after a large volume has accumulated.

The prescription drug take-back service has proven valuable to the community by preventing the drugs from being flushed and entering the water supply, and by also keeping drugs out of the wrong hands.

Armstrong's prescription drug drop-off box is open to the public and is always confidential. For additional information, call the Armstrong Police Dept. at 912.344.3333.
