WTOC Exclusive: Video of Parris Island marine bond hearing

Posted: Updated:

WTOC has exclusive new video of Parris Island Depot Sergeant Major Paul Archie appearing in court for his bond hearing Friday.

The highly decorated marine faces assault and battery charges following Thursday's scuffle with a former marine during a protest near Parris Island.

Lowcountry Reporter Vanessa Nguyen was the only media crew inside that bond hearing.

Archie turned himself in Friday morning to Port Royal police, but a magistrate judge released him on his own personal recognizance shortly after the hearing started.

Archie traded in his decorated marine uniform for a simple orange jumpsuit and flip flops when he appeared before Magistrate Judge Mark Fitzgibbons.

The terms of his personal recognizance bond include having no contact with the victim, Ethan Arguello, who chose not to attend the hearing.

Instead, Arguello returned to Highway 278 to continue protesting President Barack Obama's controversial prisoner exchange, trading five Taliban detainees who had been held at Guantanamo Bay for U.S. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.
