Tom Coleman's Funeral at Blessed Sacrament in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah businessman man and public servant Tom Coleman was laid to rest on Saturday, June 7th at 11 a.m.

Family and friends gathered for a service that was held at the Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Tom Coleman was a Savannah native and graduate of Benedictine Military School. He graduated from college at Georgia Tech and later joined the US Army.

After returning from the army he started his construction company, Bonitz of Georgia.

He began his service to Savannah as a member of the city council under Malcolm Maclean. He later went on to serve as Chairman of the Chatham County Commission.

One of his crowning achievements was when he was elected to the First District State Senate.

He served as a state senator for 14 years, retiring in 1995. He continued to stay active in the community and his hard work ethic never wavered.

Tom Coleman passed away in his home that he had once shared with his loving wife after a long illness at the age of 85.
