Friends, family say final goodbye to local legend, Tom Coleman

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Friends and family, along with the whole community, said their final goodbye to a former Savannah and Georgia lawmaker; a local legend, Tom Coleman.

A funeral was held on Saturday at the Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Coleman ended his elected career in the Georgia Senate after serving on Savannah City Council and as Chatham County Commission Chairman. He was the driving force to finally get the Truman Parkway built, among literally dozens of other things.

Tom Coleman was the epitome of a public servant, a successful businessman, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

"It really is remarkable, it is so humbling, and I know my father would be unbelievably humbled by this. That is his great legacy that he can get people together and get things done," said Celeste Coleman Shearouse.

Mr. Coleman died in the home where he and his late beloved wife, Mary, raised six children.

He was 85-years-old.
