Guyton man charged with arson after setting house on fire while high on meth

EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

A Guyton man has been charged with arson after setting his house on fire early Monday morning.

The Effingham county Sheriff's Office said 58-year-old Ronald Heath told deputies that he was high on methamphetamine and was upset.

Deputies said he started the fire on Second Street in Pinora by lighting a paper towel on fire in the kitchen.

The fire then spread through the house, causing extensive damage. Heath was renting the home.

He is currently being held at the Effingham County Jail.
