Tattnall Co child found in water

TATTNALL CO., GA (WTOC) -

Tattnall County authorities say the body of a 13-year-old boy who they believe fell into the banks of the Ohoopee River on Monday afternoon has been located.

A dive team from Appling County located the boy's body around 8:30 p.m., using a sonar camera. They say he went into the water in an area off Jarriels Bridge Road.

"The current is pretty swift in that area. Over the last several years, we have had several drownings in this area. It is a very swift area and there is a big debris field on that turn. We have had several in the past years over in that area," said Tommy Dubberly, Tattnall County EMA.

A dive team from Wayne County also assisted in the search. The boy's name has not yet been released.
