Thompson Hardwood releases statement after fire

Posted: Updated:

A fire broke out early Monday morning in our Thompson Hardwood Grade Lumber warehouse destroying more than 5million bf of finished hardwood lumber. The 200,000 sqft building was totally destroyed along with our whole office complex. Four affiliated companies operate out of that facility.

"All the employees and their supervisors responded and followed our Emergency Evacuation Procedures and no one was injured. We owe a deep gratitude to the firefighters and support personnel who responded from throughout our surrounding communities" commented CEO Darrell Beasley.

34 Fire Departments with over 127 firefighters battled the blaze throughout the day and into the night. Squads responded from across the state. GEMA Region 8 responded with logistics and communication services and remain on site.

Thompson Hardwoods has operated a Saw Mill since 1957 furnishing quality hardwood lumber for use domestically as well as overseas. "Thompson has a history of quality and service to our customers and our plans are to continue that tradition! We are making plans to reopen the facility on Wednesday morning as soon as we given the green light from our electrical power provider Satilla REMC. We'll relocate parts of our operations to offsite warehouses and resume production as soon as possible. My immediate concern is for the over 200 team members that we need to get back to work" said Mr. Beasley.
