In the Lowcountry, the preliminary results are in and some of Tuesday night's winners of the South Carolina Primaries are celebrating their victories.
District Six Councilman Jerry Stewart defeated challenger Stephen Bacon. The party is about to end for the night, but victory still tastes very sweet for Stewart and his supporters.
While the official numbers won't be verified for a few days, Stewart received almost 66 percent of the votes for his district's Republican primary.
Stewart joined the Beaufort County Council in 2007 with Chairman Paul Sommerville and Stewart Rodman. Both men also won their primaries on Tuesday night.
Stewart beat the incumbent councilman in his first race and then ran unopposed in 2011.
He said he worked hard to meet with voters up until the last minute.
"I'm very satisfied that we ran a good quality campaign, and I'm just elated that my citizens and the people that I represent are pleased enough to re-elect me for a third time," said Stewart.
