GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Five fire departments battled a blaze at a Cherokee County cabinet shop on Wednesday that was lost in the fire.

Dispatchers said the fire broke out about at Peterson's Cabinet shop on McKowns Mountain Road in the Gaffney area.

They said five departments were at the scene of the fully involved fire, and two more were on standby.

The DMW Fire Chief Rick Peterson said storms rolled through the area between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. and they believe lightning struck the building, catching fire and spreading to the transformer.

A little more than 30 minutes later, he said power was knocked out to those in the area.

By the time firefighters arrived, the chief said more than 50 percent of the roof was engulfed in flames and it took them a couple hours to get the fire under control and extinguished, especially with the amount of sawdust in the building.

The chief said thankfully no one was inside the building at the time and no one was injured.
