Visitor access changes coming to Fort Stewart

Posted: Updated:
FORT STEWART (WTOC) -

Visitor access changes are coming to Fort Stewart.

Starting on Tuesday, all non-Department of Defense card holders and those without a valid pass will have to apply for a pass before going on the installation.

The visitor center at gate one will issue passes for no more than three days at a time. People will still have to show a driver's license and registration, and starting next week, visitors will have to undergo an additional background check.

"I think the biggest thing is that there will be people who are not allowed on our installation that will be upset about it," said Fort Stewart/HAAF Provost Marshal Maj. Ann Meredith. "And if they have a valid reason to be on our installation, then that will be looked at."
