ECSO deputies concerned about second standoff in four days

EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

According to Effingham County Sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor, a man wanted by The U.S. Marshals Service shot and killed himself in a home on Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies, along with U.S. Marshals, were trying to serve a warrant on the man at a home on Cobbelton Drive in Rincon.

"Apparently, he was suppose to show up for prison time, or had not shown up, so they had warrants to come and lock him up," said Effingham County Sheriff, Jimmy McDuffie.

After contact with the suspect failed, deputies heard a gunshot go off and the suspect was found dead.

"Someone that is willing to take their own life has nothing to lose," said Dave Ehsanipoor, with the Effingham County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies faced a similar situation on Sunday when a man barricaded himself in a home of Raccoon Drive.

"I mean look at Sunday night, we had a guy barricade himself and then come out shooting at us. Then today we came here to this standoff. In the past couple months, we have had at least three standoffs," said Ehsanipoor.

"This could have been a whole lot worse. We hate that anyone had to die tonight, but if someone wants to take their own life, there is not much you can do about that. We just want to make sure the deputies and neighbors were safe," said Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie.
