HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Closing arguments were heard Thursday in the third day of the trial of a former middle school teacher charged with first-degree sodomy.

Authorities arrested Brett Naff in Sept. 2012 after a former student brought allegations against him. Naff worked as a teacher at The Country Day School in Huntsville.

The prosecution rested just before 3 p.m. Wednesday after hearing testimony from former students and soccer players.

In the third day of proceedings, the defense called an assistant soccer coach to the stand. He testified that he rode in a soccer van to games with Naff and that he always sat in the front passenger seat. In previous testimony, witnesses testified that Naff always had the victim sitting in the passenger seat as a form of reward.

The assistant coach testified that he never saw contact, inappropriate or otherwise, between the victim and Naff. The assistant coach also described the victim as "defiant" and someone who challenged authority. He also said the victim never seemed afraid of Naff.

The defense argued in closing statements that some of the victim's facts and timeline don't add up.

Deliberations begin Friday at 9 a.m. Count on WAFF to provide you the latest details on-air, online and on mobile as they come in.
