Officials have released the name of a Rincon man who shot himself during a standoff Wednesday with Effingham County sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshals.

Investigators say the standoff began when 54-year-old Martin Geyer refused to come out of a home on Cobbleton Drive where U.S. Marshals had arrived to serve an arrest warrant for him.

Deputies heard a gunshot from inside of the residence and made entry. Geyer was found inside suffering from a self inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy was conducted at the GBI Crime Lab in Savannah which also indicated Geyer died from a self-inflicted single gunshot wound to the head.

According to ECSO, Geyer was wanted for bond violation with original charges of mail fraud, possession of anabolic steroids, and unlawful possession of a gun out of Columbus, Ohio.
