CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Scammers continue to get smarter when it comes go the jury duty scam.

Scammers are now pretending to be with sheriffs' offices serving warrants for failure to show up to jury summons.

The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Dept. is warning people in the area.

"Most people aren't falling for it, but we still have the people that are falling for it," said Detective Ray Woodberry. "The person on the other end threatens them and tells them that they're going to put them in jail and arrest them if they don't comply, and so the person will go out and get the Green Dot card and then send it off to the bad guy."

Scammers are using all kinds of tactics to get innocent citizens, but the main flag to look out for is the Green Dot card. If you hear them mention that, hang up immediately.
