HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

The U.S. Army is marking a milestone.

Saturday is the Army's 239th birthday, and on Friday, Fort Stewart will be celebrating with a time honored tradition.

The 3rd Infantry Division's observance of the U.S. Army's 239th Birthday will kick off at 6:30 a.m. Friday with a 4.2 mile Division Run. All 3rd ID units assigned to Fort Stewart, Hunter Army Airfield and Kelley Hill, Fort Benning will participate in the run.

Following the Division Run, a birthday cake-cutting event will be held on Trent Field in front of the Division Headquarters. Traditionally, the cake-cutting celebrates the Army's Birthday by having the oldest and youngest soldiers in the formation jointly making the first cut of the birthday cake with a saber.
