Effingham Co. residents losing hope on Medient Studios

EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - Residents in Effingham County are losing hope on the much talked about multi-million dollar movie studio project. Medient Studios announced the CEO was ousted and they are now scaling back some of the plans they originally promised

Medient studio officials said last year that the new studios would be ready by spring, but neighbors around Effingham County said entrance gates lead to nothing.

"I just don't think it will happen," resident Hubert Sapp said.

Sapp said his property nearly butts up to the land where Medient studios has been promising for more than a year to build a super studio to shoot and produce movies.

The group is now cutting back its plans that included suspension bridges, an amphitheater and glass domed studios

"It would have been a good idea if it would've gone forward but it was just too big of a project and they had too big expectations," Sapp said.

More than two million tax payer dollars are going toward this project, and Sapp said he has yet to see where his money is going.

"Well I'm not happy with it because we are not getting a return for the dollar," he said.

Sapp said at the very least- he hopes they will get the ball rolling soon.

People at the Industrial Develop Authority said they are still working with Medient officials about the next steps of this process.
