SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The application process has closed and now the process of sorting through more than 100 applicants to replace former Police Chief Willie Lovett, who is now on the other side of the law, has begun.

"It's sad not just for the chief but for the entire community you dont take comfort in anyones down fall. And you feel sorry for the chief and his family. After 40 years of service on the force this is how you want to end your career? I suggest not," County Commission Chairman Al Scott said. "I hope the cheif is correct in his plea of innocence, and the judicial process will have to take its cource."

Scott said the search for a new chief is a city lead task and he hopes they can re-evaluate the process in the future.
