Man and woman arrested in Statesboro high speed chase on SR 67

A man and woman have been taken into police custody after fleeing from Bulloch County Sherriff's Office Deputies, Bryan County Sheriff's Office Deputies, and a Georgia State Patrol trooper on State Route 67 around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14.

Shavika Williams and Ernest Graham of Savannah were chased by Bryan County Sheriff's deputies off of Interstate 16 traveling westbound in a Chevrolet Cruze.

The Chevrolet turned on northbound SR 67 where it was intercepted by a Georgia State Patrol trooper.

Bulloch County Sheriff's Office was determined to stop the vehicle from entering Statesboro since the potential for a high speed crash was very high.

"At 124 miles per hour, you can't negotiate city streets," noted Chief Deputy Jared Akins. "Our goal was to keep it from getting there."

Deputies from BCSO set up spike strips on SR 67 near the Kiwanis Fairgrounds but after the fleeing driver observed the trap he turned around in the middle of SR 67 and intentionally backed into a BCSO patrol car.

The driver fled into the Hammocks subdivision in Statesboro where he recklessly drove behind homes and through yards before attempting to get back on SR 67.

Before the fleeing driver could leave the Hammocks subdivision a trooper and a deputy were able to strike the violater's vehicle with their own and pushed it into a ditch.

The driver of the fleeing car, Ernest Graham ran away from officers on foot and attempted to fight them but was subdued by use of a taser.

The passenger, Shavika Williams was taken into custody without incident.

A subsequent search revealed a quantity of cocaine and also marijuana in the vehicle.

Graham is charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, 4 cts of Felony
Obstruction of Law Enforcement, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Felony
Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, Speeding (124 in a 55), DUI, Driving while License
