Ft. Stewart opens new Marne Advocacy Resource Center

FORT STEWART (WTOC) -

Soldiers gathered Tuesday at Fort Stewart for a ribbon cutting ceremony for its brand new Marne Advocacy Resource Center.

The center will give support to victims of sexual assault, sexual harassment, discrimination and abuse.

The care is not limited to those working on the post. Soldiers and family members, both adults and children can come to the center.

"Hopefully in a couple years, five years, 10 years, we will meet back down here and close this facility down because we no longer need it. But until that day, we really need each and every one of yours help to get after this problem," Major General John Murray said.

Reports of sexual assault in the military rose 50 percent last year, according to a study done by the Pentagon. Fort Stewart hopes that the center will be a place where victims will feel comfortable seeking help.
