(WMC) - The Heal the Hood Foundation is hard at work changing lives one child at a time, and 16-year-old Andrew Hunt says he has a lot to thank the Heal the Hood Foundation for that.

The son of a single mother, Hunt was only 12 years old when he was almost sucked in by peer pressure to join a gang.

"I saw the drugs, and the gangs, and all of that, so I started to feel the pressure of being in a gang," said Hunt.

Hunt says he would have actually taken the steps to join the gang, but something stopped him.

"By actually seeing the results of what gangs do to young men, I had to back out. Cause that's not something I wanted to do in my life," he said.

Hunt says he had been watching what Heal the Hood was doing with others students and he wanted in. The group's Evolution School of the Arts offers students a chance to learn animation, dance, and how to actually play instruments.

The group's first comic book, inspired from pressure to join gangs, goes on sale in August and will have support from some Walmart stores.

The Heal the Hood Foundation will host their annual Celebrity Basketball Game on June 21. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.hthmemphis.org.
