CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Updates on cargo volume, a discussion of the state's inland port and the budget for the coming fiscal year are on the agenda for the board of the South Carolina Ports Authority.

The panel is scheduled to meet in Charleston on Wednesday.

During recent months, volume through the Port of Charleston has been the highest in six years as the economy has recovered to levels prior to the Great Recession.

Activity should increase even more in the coming years as Giti Tire builds its first North American manufacturing plant in Chester County, investing $560 million and creating 1,700 jobs.

The company said Monday one of the key reasons it chose South Carolina for the plant was the Port of Charleston.
