Plans fall apart for Savannah water park

Two water parks were planned to be open by now, but one is under construction and the other is dead in the water.

Viewers have been asking, what happened to Pirates Cove Water on 204 and I-95?

Two years ago developers were working with investors and hoping to open last summer, the summer of 2013, after a series of delays since 2011.

The City of Savannah said no building permits or designs have been requested, and the Metropolitan Planning Commission said they haven't heard anything new, and the project on 204 and I-95 has gone away.

Did those investors take their money up the road to Pooler, where another water park is under construction? Savannah city leaders said it looks that way.

According to Pooler's mayor, the park is about a year behind schedule but is expected to be open next year.

"I hadn't hear anything in a long time," said Savannah Mayor Pro-Tem Van Johnson. "I assumed it was dead in the water. People beat us to the punch; there are water parks around in the vicinity. I would have loved to have one here, but on the other hand, we live in a regional community, so when one city does well in Chatham County, we all do well."

Pooler Mayor Mike Lamb said he is excited about the progress here in Pooler, and while it won't be finished this year; they hope this water park will be open to the public by next spring.
