MOSCOW (CNN) - Ukraine's president says he will order a brief, unilateral cease-fire to allow pro-Russian separatists to lay down their arms.

President Petro Poroshenko says militants who disarm will be given an escape corridor.

The announcement comes after a phone conversation between Poroshenko and Russian president Vladimir Putin.

But Russia's foreign minister is voicing some serious concerns, comparing the proposal on Wednesday to a type of ethnic cleansing.
