SCCPSS breaks ground on West Chatham School

PORT WENTWORTH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Chatham School Officials broke ground on Friday on the brand new West Chatham School.

The school will be home to some students that currently go to Godley Station.

Growth in that area has caused over-crowding at Godly Station, proving a new school is needed.

Officials said thanks to ESPLOST, they can bring schools closer to several communities.

"It will be a lot easier because you have to get onto 95 going to Godley Station," said parent Caroline Flavigny. "Even though the school is five minutes away, a ride on 95 is an extra 10 minutes, and if here is traffic, it can take 30 minutes sometimes in the morning."

They hope to have the school ready for the start of school in the fall of 2015.
