EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

An Effingham County Corrections Officer has been arrested on felony charges after he sent obscene messages online to a teenager.

Troy Bohannon, 45, is being charged with obscene Internet contact with a child. The investigation and arrest was a joint effort by the Screven County Sheriff's Office and the Effingham County Sheriff's Office.

"Cases like this we treat the same across the board, it does not matter who you are. Whether you are rich, poor, black, white, poor, a doctor, or law enforcement you will get the same thing," said Effingham County Sheriff's spokesman.

Bohannon, of Sylvania, was contacting a child in person that then moved to inappropriate messages online.

"The victim in this case is absolutely without fault. She did nothing wrong at all," Sgt. Brett Dickerson, with the Screven County Sheriff's Office.

The teen's grandparent alerted the Screven County Sheriff's Office, and that is when the Effingham County Sheriff's Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force got involved.

"The Effingham County Sheriff's Office has been a great ally. They have assisted us a number of times with stuff like this," said Dickerson.

Bohannon has been working at the Effingham County Prison. His last day was June 15th. The inappropriate messages had been going on for weeks.
