Oil Spill Off Georgia Coast

The United State's Marine Safety Office is investigating an oil spill off the coast of Tybee Island. Safety office spokesmen say the Fortune Epoch has been anchored ten miles off the coast of Tybee since reporting a fuel leak yesterday morning.

The Marine Safety Office says the ship's tank holds 37,000 gallons of fuel, but they're not sure just how much of that leaked into the water, or why.

Officials say it did make its way up onto North Beach, but the impact was minimal and it has been cleaned up. Tybee Island mayor Walter Parker says that's not good enough.

"My concern is, it seems to be with all the technology we have and the sophisticated equipment, ships should get checked to see if they are seaworthy before going in and out of the ports," Parker said.

FSK Lines owns the cargo ship and they could be facing a hefty fine, pending the outcome of the investigation.
