Juneteenth Festival in Savannah celebrates the end of slavery

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Daughters of Mary Magdalene hosted a Juneteenth festival in Savannah on Saturday, June 21st from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the 38th street park.

The event brings together people of all races to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States and is usually celebrated on June 19th every year.

It is one of the oldest celebrations of freedom dating back to 1865.

The key note speaker at this event was Savannah native attorney Albert Mitchell.
