Tybee Floatilla hosts float for a cure benefiting Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -

Around 500 people participated in the "Float for a Cure" Tybee Floatilla on Sunday, June 22nd benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Savannah.

The event was held in honor of Brian Lanier who passed away at age 29 after receiving a Leukemia cancer diagnosis.

"A friend of mine died a few months ago from cancer. A lot of people out here knew him, so we are all out here honoring him, and supporting the cancer research, and trying to put an end to it," said Brian Stafford, Organizer.

The Float for a Cure started at 11 a.m. where tubers entered the water at 3 Alley Street and then enjoyed a relaxing trip down the Tybee Creek/Back River.

The trip concluded at the Crab Shack restaurant.

An after party was held at the Crab Shack, from 2:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., where there was live music to enjoy by performer, John Maple.
