Car drives into Baker's Pride

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A car drove through the front of Baker's Pride on E. DeRenne Avenue on Monday afternoon after an elderly woman stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake.

Baker's Pride has insurance and the giant storefront window is now sealed up

This is actually the second time something like this has happened. The first time a driver hit a pole, and this time a driver went straight through the window into the bakery.

Three customers were standing in line and workers were gathering up some goodies when an elderly driver hit the gas instead of the brakes and barreled through the shop. Some said it sounded like an explosion.

"I missed all the action," said owner Al Lang. "I was out on deliveries, but I got a call some lady decided to drive into the front of the bakery."

No one was seriously injured, and the driver was shaken up and startled. So were employees when it happened.

"It was like something out of a movie," said employee Rodney Seabrooke. "The car stopped but she kept going because the wheels kept spinning."

"Thank goodness she got caught on the sidewall, or she would have gone through the cases into the back," said Lang.

Baker's Pride closed early on Monday, but it expects to be back open for business tomorrow.
