BOWIE CO., TX (KSLA) -

A medical transport helicopter had to make an emergency landing in Bowie County, Texas Monday afternoon.

Texas State Troopers said there were four people in the helicopter, including a patient being transferred from a McCurtain County vehicle wreck to CHRISTUS St. Michael hospital in Texarkana.

Police said no one was injured when the pilot made a hard landing in a soybean field on FM Road 2253 near Hwy 559. The pilot made the move after the chopper began having mechanical problems.

Josh Campbell was working on a house nearby when the chopper swooped to the ground.

"We heard a noise and turned and looked in the field and the helicopter was trying to land and he didn't have his motor running and hit nose first," Campbell said.

"Took the truck over there and actually transferred the patient from the helicopter to the pickup, then we met the ambulance at the road," he said.

The condition of the patient has not been released at this time. No injuries were reported, however.

There was some visible damage to the aircraft, but the extent of the damage has not been confirmed.

EagleMed is based out of Hugo, which is in Southeast Oklahoma.
