SC Marines' increased training means more noise

Posted: Updated:

MARINE CORPS AIR STATOIN BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Residents near the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort are going to be hearing a lot of F/A-18 jet takeoffs and landings in the coming days - and into the evenings as well.

Marines from the installation are conducting extended training starting for six day on Wednesday in order to maintain their operational and combat readiness.

Generally, the flights are going to be from 7 a.m. through 1 a.m. On Saturday, the exercises are being suspended.

On Sunday, the flights are going to be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The Marine Corps air squadrons must conduct training day and night in order to practice flights that would take place if they are deployed onboard an aircraft carrier.
