Residents take issue with waste management on Tybee Island

TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -

Residents on Tybee Island are up in arms over their recycling service after a recent incident.

Michael Elliot snapped a picture and posted it on Facebook, complaining Waste Pro Waste Management. He wrote he was in disbelief as he watched the recycling truck on Tybee Island pull in front of a house to empty the garbage into the same truck right after.

Tybee Councilman Barry Brown said this is not the first time the city has had issues.

"That is an ongoing situation right there," Brown said. "We are trying to get it straightened out with deliveries and days of pickup. There is a meeting [Friday] morning about that situation right there, so if they cannot conduct their business the way they should, we may need to reconsider our contract and all that with them."

A meeting between city leaders, residents and the recycling company has been scheduled for Friday morning at 13:30 at Tybee City Hall. Anyone with waste management concerns is invited to attend.
