H&M coming to Broughton Street

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A major international fashion retailer is officially coming to Broughton Street.

WTOC can confirm Ben Carter Enterprises plans to demolish the building at 240 W. Broughton Street and open an H&M store.

This news comes after the zoning board of appeals gave the project the go ahead on Thursday.

The retailer requires 30,000 square feet and will occupy the basement and additional three floors. The demo request was to provide the retailer with a consistent, architecturally attractive store.

"They have prominent locations in D.C., New York, London and now they want to be here, in Savannah," said Ben Carter in a release. "That speaks volumes for this city and for Broughton Street."

This project is part of Carter's $75 million plan to revitalize Broughton Street and bring in more retailers and restaurants.

The team also announced J. Crew, L'Occitane and The Ancient Olive will open their first Savannah store in Carter properties on historic Broughton Street.

There is no word yet on when construction on the store begins.
