ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

On Tuesday the new "gun bill" will take effect allowing guns inside government buildings, bars, and churches.

House Bill 60, also known as the Safe Carry Protection Act, allows licensed gun owners to carry weapons inside government buildings, including the Government center downtown. Some people disagree saying the new bill is too broad.

"I think that it would be ok if there were more restrictions on people just in general being able to get guns," said Michael Anthony.

Others like the new bill and think people have the right to protect themselves.

"Yeah I agree with the bill," said Carlton Martin. "I think a person should have the right to protect themselves because we have people that have guns that are not stable."

The new bill takes effect July 1st. City officials encourage residents to educate themselves on the new law that expands gun rights.
