SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah State University celebrated the 50th anniversary of the federally-funded upward bound program which helps students go through high school and college.

Sunday at the King Frazier student center ballroom, three former Upward Bound students discussed their experiences with the scholarship program, and how it paved the way for their current careers.

"Upward Bound means everything to me, I wouldn't be standing here right now if it wasn't for pward bound. Upward Bound has helped me so much in my high school years with tutorials and just helping me get through everything. Upward Bound has just been an inspiration to me and I will forever love Upward Bound," said Ahmir Green.

Upward Bound's graduating seniors from this year were honored Saturday at a scholarship banquet. Each graduate enrolled at SSU was given a three hundred dollar book scholarship for the upcomic school year.
