BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The Baxter County Sheriff's Office with the Alcohol Beverage Control Enforcement Division made several arrests this past weekend for minors in possession of alcohol at a business near Lake Norfork.

Deputies and an ABC Enforcement Agent went to The Brickyard for a compliance check around 12:15 early Sunday morning. The ABC agent received complaints of minors drinking inside the club.

At the club, people older than 18 were allowed to enter, but anyone under 21 was supposed to be marked with a black "X" on the hand or arm to prevent them from being able to buy alcohol.

Out of the people checked, six who were drinking were under 21. They were arrested and taken to the Baxter County Detention Center. During the booking process, three of the underage suspects were found to not have the black "X" on them.

The following were charged with minor in possession of alcohol:

    • Robert B. Loftin, 19 years old from Ward
    • Joseph L. Reed, 20 years old from West Plains, Missouri
    • Melvin C. Byler, 20 years old from Everton
    • Corey James Cook, 20 years old from Calico Rock
    • Ashley Brokeshoulder, 19 years old from Beebe
    • Preston K. Sherrel, 19 years old from Calico Rock

Each person was released from custody on a $220 bond, and will appear in district court on July 10.

Deputies were called back to The Brickyard around 1:20 a.m. because a person was trying to start a fight in the parking lot. The manager told deputies he told the person to leave, but he attempted to come back inside and then became belligerent.

Deputies arrested Cody Lynn Poe, 19, and took him to the Detention Center.

He was charged with public intoxication, minor in possession of alcohol, and disorderly conduct.

A charge was added for obstructing governmental operations, after he tried to use his cousin's driver license during booking.

Poe was released on a $840 bond and will appear in district court on July 10.
