LOS ANGELES, July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In honor of Shakey's Pizza Parlors' 60th anniversary, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has issued a signed certificate commemorating the historic milestone. To celebrate the event, the iconic restaurant chain invites the public to enjoy a free giant slice of the World's Greatest PizzaTM Monday, July 7th, 3PM to 5PM, at all participating Southern California restaurants.

Originally established in 1954 as the destination for pizza, beer, and ragtime music, Shakey's "ye public house" is the gathering place for families and friends looking for tasty food and fun times at a great value. For six decades, Shakey's has been a tradition for birthday, anniversary, graduation and team celebrations.

"Some things never go out of style," says Nick Mayer, CEO of Shakey's Pizza. "During a time when people want nothing more than to get social, Shakey's Pizza has stayed true to its retro roots, featuring its classic thin crust pizza with dough made fresh daily, frosty pints, crispy fried chicken and famous Mojo Potatoes, all in a relaxing atmosphere where everyone can have fun," added Mayer. "Through our strong community ties, Shakey's has been supporting local schools, sports teams and civic groups through fundraisers, recognition programs and sponsorships while employing thousands of L.A. residents."

Mayor Eric Garcetti noted, "It's so impressive that after 60 years, Shakey's still has its 'Mojo.' It's been home to countless birthdays, post-game feasts and family dinners and has been an important job creator and economic engine, and I extend my best wishes for 60 more years of success. "

To honor the milestone, the public is invited to drop by their neighborhood Shakey's Pizza, Monday, July 7th between 3-5PM, to enjoy a free giant slice of Shakey's pizza and commemorate a feel-good slice of L.A. history.

A pop culture icon, Shakey's has been featured in countless television shows and films including South Park, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Six Feet Under, Gilmore Girls and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, to name a few. Its most famous employee, actor Billy Bob Thornton, continues to share his Shakey's stories in every interview he gives.
