SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

The body of a Summit County teen that disappeared in Springfield Lake Tuesday night has been recovered.

Summit County Emergency Services resumed their search at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday for Camden Cole. His body was found just before noon.

Crews had been searching for him since Tuesday evening when he and his cousin went for a swim. Police say the two were on private property.

The two swam out to a buoy about 500 feet from shore. They were on their way back when Cole became distressed for unknown reasons and never emerged.

His cousin tried to save him but couldn't. He eventually made it safely to shore and it currently being evaluated for shock.

"His companion swimmer tried to assist him, until he realized that the 16 year old was going to drag him under," said Springfield Fire Department Chief Victor Wincik.

Due to low visibility divers used sonar scanning boats in their search for Cole.

Swimming in Springfield Lake is prohibited, unless from private property or a boat -- and both boys were reportedly on private property.

Family members say Cole, who was to be a junior at Springfield High School in the fall, was a very good swimmer.

According to Springfield Township Police Sergeant Eric East, the last drowning incident there was in 1980.

A donation fund has been created to help the family with funeral expenses.

Rescue and Dive Teams from Summit County Sheriff's Office, Akron Fire, Lakemore Fire, New Franklin Fire, Green Fire, Coventry Fire, Ohio DNR Watercraft, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary assisted Springfield Twp. Fire and Police in the search.
