SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A Savannah-Chatham high school has received national recognition Wednesday.

Beach High School has been named one of "the best high schools in the nation". Beach got bronze medal status as a high performing school based on state exam performance.

The superintendent said this school has made huge strides to bring up its scores, and that this award is well deserved.

"This is a great indication of what great leader and great teachers can do for students. Often we look at students who aren't achieving, but it's often the adults. The families coming together, and the great leadership. And I think in this case all the ingredients came together. Beach is on a roll, and you're going to continue to see it move forward and gain that great prestige that it has enjoyed in its past history," Superintendent Thomas Lockamy said.

Savannah Arts Academy also received an award ranking 189th in the nation, and seventh in the state under gold medal status.
